Barbie at Yorkdale: Roaming Photographers for a Two Day Pop Up
An experiential agency brought PhotoboothTO back to cover a Barbie pop up at Yorkdale Shopping Centre with roaming photographers, vertical photos, instant prints and instant sharing.

Overview
The Barbie is Moving pop up took over a space at Yorkdale Shopping Centre beside Starbucks and near Canada Goose on September 19 and 20, 2026. The agency running it had worked with PhotoboothTO before and booked us again for the photography.
Day one ran from 10 AM to 9 PM and day two ran into the evening, so the brief called for a photographer on the floor for every open hour.

By the Numbers
The Challenge
A full day in a busy mall is longer than one photographer can cover well. The agency needed continuous coverage from opening to close with no gap at the handover.
The client also wanted clean photos of the space fully built, before any guests arrived, and every guest photo had to be vertical to suit the set and social sharing.
Key considerations included:
- Continuous coverage across long mall hours
- A seamless handover between photographers
- Vertical photos only
- Photos of the empty set before doors
- Instant prints and instant sharing for every guest
The Solution

We staffed two roaming photographers per day in overlapping shifts. The first photographer set up by 9 AM and captured the finished space between 9 and 10 AM, before guests arrived. The second photographer arrived early and took over at 3 PM, so the floor was never without a camera.
Every guest photo was shot vertically in the pink Barbie is Moving window, printed on the spot and shared instantly to guests' phones.
Execution highlights
- Two roaming photographers per day with an overlapping handover
- Photos of the finished set before guests arrived
- Vertical photos to match the set and social feeds
- Instant prints for every guest
- Instant digital sharing
The Results

The gallery holds 1,577 images from the two days, from the empty set shots to families framed in the Barbie window.
The agency has since booked PhotoboothTO again for another activation, which says more about the result than any number.

For a retail pop up, coverage is everything. Overlapping roaming photographers kept the camera live for every open hour and gave the brand a full record of the space and its guests.
